Why or Why not mix Clay and Essential Oils?
Clay is antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal and hemostatic.
You also want to use essential oils (which are also a wonder of nature) because your knowledge is sufficient and safe!
Let's talk about it:
Rule No. 1: We forget (without professional advice) to care for cats, small rodents and birds with essential oils
BUT NO DANGER WITH CLAY
That said, unlike clay, which cannot cause harm or create side effects, such as allergies, discomfort, or other problems, essential oils are very powerful and can also be harmful if misused, poorly chosen, or even poorly dosed. This is often what happens when you mix one or more oils into a clay poultice. Why?
Clay only works when it is wet. When it is dry, it becomes inerted again (having, for example, absorbed the toxins it was supposed to absorb for that application). It is therefore rendered just protective against insects, dust, etc. But when it is mixed with essential oils, the oils continue to work on the skin, the wound even when the clay is dry. And it is these effects that can cause skin irritation after several poultices.
So what to do?
Here is what I propose to you:
Use 2 methods of approach or care:
- in the morning or evening you make a clay poultice
- In the morning or evening, you do a treatment with your chosen essential oils mixed with the most appropriate vegetable oil
So you have two different treatments, which cannot harm each other, and this will allow you to observe which is the most appropriate? Maybe even both? Using natural products is not without danger. It also requires a lot of observation, moderation, patience, and humility. Not everything happens quickly. Not everything is measured and protocoled, which can also cause a little insecurity. This is the main reason why I like clay because you can't do any harm even if you think you're not doing it quite right.
This is why I want to remind you that aromatherapy is much more difficult to master than it seems. So be sure of what you are doing (choice, quantity, quality) before applying oils to your pet's body. Of course, essential oils give incredible results. Mixed with a vegetable oil, by olfaction, even pure for some only, and applied to acupuncture points, for example. But there are rules and many things to know before using them correctly. Be careful.
We have excellent Quebec companies like Aliksir and ZayatAroma who are true professionals and whose oils are of impeccable quality. They are also very generous in sharing their knowledge.
.
Whatever product you choose, we know you always want to do the best you can. Educate yourself, train yourself, and above all, continue to enjoy the presence and wonderful energy of your pets.
It is a joy and a privilege to share our lives with them.
