Small rodents & birds

Due to its composition of silicate, magnesium, various minerals, trace elements, etc., all animals are spontaneously attracted to clay because they know that it provides them with essential minerals.

Do you know the story behind the geophagy (eating earth) of Amazon parrots (pictured above)? Here's a brief summary: parrots sometimes feed on toxic plants in the Amazon rainforest, and to detoxify, they eat clay from clayey earth walls. This keeps them healthy.

For small rodents you can dip pieces of fruit or vegetables into the clay or sprinkle it on their food.

For birds, you also have another solution, here is a recipe: Make a clay paste with clay and water and dip your dehydrated fruits in this paste. Let it dry and give it to your birds. They will love it.

Throughout the year and regularly, also offer them a second bowl of water to which you have added a pinch of clay. They will drink it if they feel the need.
